Sandy's Thoughts on the Economy

I don't understand the economy at all. So the stimulus package is putting 787 billion dollars back into the economy, with some going to infrastructure, some going to save jobs of public employees, etc. Where is this money coming from? If I had known we had this much at our disposal I could have come up with this plan. I don't think we have the whole story because really it just seems like common sense to me. I feel like Obama just waved a magic wand and suddenly we had a plan to save everything and make it great. There has to be some sort of catch, that or this plan is going to fail terribly and we're all going to be even worse off. It just is not possible that the solution is so easy, if it was how did we even get into the recession in the first place? I really don't understand the economy so maybe there's some detail I don't know about that allows this situation to make sense.

Sandy's Thoughts on the Caribbean

So I read an article about how France is having troubles with it's territories in the Caribbean because they keep going on strike. France is annoyed because these strikes are paralyzing tourism. I say, keep striking! I think the whole "having territories in a country other than your own" thing is ridiculous. Why doesn't France just let the Caribbeans be independent, then they wouldn't have any problems. The islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe began protesting because of low wages and rising prices. How can France be angry about that? First, the French colonize their land, then they pay them next to nothing so that they can walk away with a profit. Wouldn't they expect the Caribbeans to be angry? According to the head of the French black rights group Cran, "the descendants of colonial settlers own 90% of Guadeloupe's wealth, but represent only 1% of the population". How shameful! The French should stop complaining and start listening!

Sandy's Thoughts on the Stimulus

I am by no means an 'economic guru', so I won't pretend I know whether or not this stimulus will help to fix our economy. However, the fact that they only offered a vague outline of their plan does annoy me. If they're putting this plan into effect, shouldn't they know all the details? And if they know the details, don't we deserve to know them? The plan seems to have left everyone with even more worries than before. But does it really matter if we have the details? Will that make anyone feel better?
Which brings me to another point! Everywhere you look there is coverage of this stimulus plan and everyone is analyzing it and criticizing it and expressing fears that it will fail. But what is the perfect solution for our economy? I don't think there is one wonderful solution that will magically make everything better. Everyone you talk to has a different plan, whether you talk to Wall Street executives or your next door neighbor. How will we ever find a way to fix the economy if we don't try anything? If it fails, that would be unfortunate but then we'll try something else. After all, isn't America supposed to be all about rising to a challenge?

Sandy's Thoughts on Obama's Outfit

I don't understand why everyone is freaking out because Obama wasn't wearing a suit coat. Does it really matter what the president is wearing? Shouldn't we be more concerned with his policies and whether or not he is effectively running our country? In the past 3 days I have heard more about what Obama's wearing than what he has been doing to help our economy. I think America is too obsessed with what our political figures are wearing.

Sandy's Thoughts on Big Bonuses

There is an uproar throughout the nation in response to the billions of dollar bonuses taken by Wall Street Execs, and I have an opinion about it. I think it's really innapropriate that Wall Street executives pocketed 18 billion dollars worth of tax payer's money. They already have enough money to sustain a comfortable lifestyle, so why are they taking our money that should be used to help the economy and keeping it for themselves? I agree with president Obama 100% that the greed displayed by these executives is shameful.

Sandy's Thoughts About Pets

So I read an article and the author was saying people spend too much money on their pets. I think people spending money on pets is the same as spending money on children. Kids cost so much and nobody ever complains but when people spend money on their pets everyone thinks it's weird. Pets are really friendly and nice to have around so I think that everyone should. The only situation where this is creepy is the couple who paid to clone their dead dog.
